ZEN MEDITATION at Jizoan Zen Centre


Jizoan Zen Centre is an urban Zen comunity located in Perth, Western Australia. Jizoan offers a variety of practice oppurtunities in the Rinzai Zen tradition. Our vision focuses on the integration of practice, arts, enviromental appreciation and social awareness, bringing together Wisdom and Compassion.  

AN INTRODUCTION TO ZEN

Please come join us in our Zen centre and gardens and look for opportunities to begin or deepen your Zen practice.

Beginners Workshops - Monday,Wednesday, Saturday evenings & Saturday Afternoons
'Moon Viewing' is a 4 week workshop covering a variety facets of Zen. Through which you will have a potentially strong foundation your future Zen practice, and an understanding in your past Zen practice. Potentially because Zen is what you make it. Ask What is Zen? And a million answers are possible, each belonging to each person and even changing as our understanding grows.
After which you can join any sitting evening or day.


Workshop details and registration                                                    
Viewing the Moon Workshop Cost $80 (Advanced Registration through Paypal)

Week 1 Zen Basic, introduction to basic posture, breathing, other practical instructions and principles of Zen.
Week 2 Zen Mind, introduction to Genjo Koan - meditation with the Fundamental Koan and other practical principles and instruction
Week 3 Free sitting and practice talk and introduction to Yassen method of Zen meditation
Week 4 Free sitting and introduction to Shakkyo method of Zen meditation


Please aim to be on time at 6.30pm, you only have to do this once, after that you can sit any evening or morning and participate in any other activities, (or take the workshop again if you wish to!).

Anyone is welcome, if you have an allergy or other please mention before coming.
  • Please do not contact us expecting to come the same day we may not have space or may be delayed in reply. You are welcome to join either the Monday or Thursday Workshops. Having completed or while participating in the workshops you may attend the regular sittings any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday evening or Weekend mornings.
  • Please bring a pair of Thongs (flip-flops or zori). You cannot wear shoes inside and will need to remove socks also (pantihose is OK). Jeans are not recommended.
  • The Workshop will run over 4 weeks. 
  • After doing the workshop you are welcome to continue to come to organized sitting at Jizoan and you may join in other activities such as Kosesshin.

The temple is located near Stock road and Winterfold road off Redmond road. A 5 minute drive from Fremantle or 15 minutes currently on the Free way South bound.

COMING FROM PERTH by BUS direct [940 bus]
For buses we recommend using the 940 from Perth station , this is semi express running (this will make a timed stop at Garden city Shopping centre and become a regular service from that point) every 20 minutes. The first stop in easy walking distance, about 5 minutes, is located at Rolsten st. before Oconnel st. (which leads to the temple).

COMING FROM FREMANTLE by Bus direct [513 bus] or [511 bus]
A number of buses originate from Fremantle Train station.The closest stop is located at Redmond Road before Burridge way, about 4 minutes walk. Routes and times are subject to frequent change.
Buses from Fremantle are not frequent so be careful. Buses on the Fremantle route are almost non-existent on Sundays.
Alternatively 511 bus to Murdoch bus port stops 7 minutes away on Winterfold road just before crossing Stock road.

COMING FROM PERTH by Train to Fremantle
Regular trains run from Perth to Fremantle every 20 minutes. A bus port is located at Fremantle train station from which the Bus leaves.

COMING FROM MURDOCH BUS PORT
511 travels between the Murdoch bus port and Fremantle, the set down near the temple is about 5-7 minutes walk.
